Senior Motorcyclist Dies Days After Alexandria Crash

An elderly Alexandria man has died after fighting for his life for over a week following a tragic motorcycle crash, authorities say.

Darrell Hayes, 75, was rushed to a hospital on the morning of Monday, Oct. 3 after crashing his 2018 Honda Goldwing motorcycle while attempting to make a left turn from northbound Lantern Place to westbound South Kings Highway, according to Fairfax County police.

Investigators say Hayes lost control of his motorcycle during the turn, laying it down on the roadway. Hayes succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, Oct. 13.

Police do not believe that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
